Cush Hunta

Born Kashif Omar Downs, the coarse voiced Cush Hunta is a Deejay warrior crafted from the furnace of nineteen nineties Jamaican dancehall. Sharing a Birthday with Reggae King Bob Marley was always going to bode well for the artist who grew up in Port Maria, St. Mary, Jamaica. A trained mechanic, he cut his teeth freelancing around Kingston’s Studio circuit including the likes of King Tubbys, Jammys, Penthouse and Black Scorpio. Along the way Cush met artist/producer Sugar Roy who subsequently released Cush Huntas’ first single “Kotchulla” on the Ratchet Riddim.

This was followed by other releases which were loved by fans but unfortunately, did not get much love by the media. He then decided to take charge of his own career; a decision which reaped instant success with his production of his hit song “Greens” (Rasta naa feed pon greens alone) on his own Dollar Sign Productions label. Greens made a big impact on the music industry, getting regular rotation from Irie FM DJs such as DJ Smurf, Ellise Kelly, DJ Wayne and other disc jocks. Cush is currently working with various producers from different studios but has been recently signed to Cornestone Productions and The Media, Sports and Entertainment Group for select digital distribution. This strategic partnership saw a rejuvenation of his career after a brief hiatus from the limelight with his release ‘Mawga Bwoy’ which was a comical follow up to his best piece of work to date, ‘Greens’.
