Alan Weekes
Alan Weekes was born in London of Bajan parents in 1958. Graduated from Guildhall school of music and drama in 1987. In the early eighties he was involved with the British reggae scene and played on many studio sessions particularly in the lovers rock idiom. Alan Weekes' guitar style has been an important part of the international and local (UK) music scene since 1975. He has featured at most of the prestigious festivals and concert venues worldwide. Alan has appeared on numerous television & radio shows and videos. His numerous recording session credits include the likes of Art Blakey, Aswad, Caroll Thompson, Caron Wheeler, David lynden Hall, Prince Jammy , Dick Heckstall-Smith, DHSS Band, Pete Brown,Alex Wilson, Alan Glass,Mike Mwenso , Jay Phelps Black Slate, Anthony Brightly Jimmy Cliff. Ernest Raglin, Jameila , Joss Stone, Damian Marley, Jean Adebambo, Jackie Mitto, Jazz Warriors, Jazz Jamaica, Maxi Preist, Miss Lou, Sugar Minott, Sandra Cross , George Clinton, Jerome Rodgers , Max Edwards Natalie Stewart Floetry, Devon and Bruce Russell, Trevor, Walters, Clifford jarvis Cleveland Watkis, Victor Romeo Evans, Skatroniks Jamaica Janet Kay,Ashley Slater, Courtney Pine, Ernest Ranglin, Pee Wee Ellis RICO Rodriguez, Alan Weekes Quartet and many more he has been appearing at the Ronnie Scott Jazz club recently in 2010 with the quartet. Known for his soulful rhythmic grooves, and jazzy solos has kept him in a variety of styles such as jazz, blues, pop and opera which has keep him in constant demand. Alan Weekes leads two bands: THE ALAN WEEKES QUARTET Alan Weekes Quartet has been going strong for 18 years paying at their home The Haggerston, formerly Uncle SAM’s. Collectively the band consist of Marshall of the field Brian Edwards sax, conjuror of spirits Shane Forbes drums, the solid relentless pulse in Ben Hazleton double bass, the cosmic harmony of Alan Weekes guitar. This band is keeping the flame as well as probing for new avenues in Jazz blues and swing a new live CD is about to drop in 2012 stay tuned. ALAN WEEKES & THE EFFRA BAND Alan Weekes & The Effra Band.. another flavour to savour the Carabean sounds from Alan’s journey in life and music, incorporating studio1, who he had the pleasure of working with through Jackie Mittoo, the band enlist Kenrick Rowe and/or Gary Willams Drums, Lance Rose Double Bass, Patrick Anthony (ex UB40/ TAN TAN) Trumpet and Alan Weeks on guitar. A blend of Rock Steady, SKA, Blues and Jazz, which grew organically out of a popular night in Brixton on a thursday called Effra Pub, hence the Effra Band. ALAN WEEKES & THE EFFRA BAND the album is scheduled for release in summer of 2012.
